Maxilock Identity Safe
Frequently
asked Questions.
1.
Why
should I use Maxilock Identity Safe?
Identity theft is the most serious cyber crime today, costing billions of
dollars and affecting many innocent people and business. For any
individual, losing your identity can be devastating both financially and
in reputation. There are many re-active systems which require online
update every time a new threat is discovered. Maxilock Identity Safe is
pro-active and does not require update, delivering and maintaining a
consistent level of protection.
2.
What
does Maxilock Identity Safe do?
It protects your identity by securing personal information you enter and
exchange online and prevents the web pages you view from being recorded.
3.
How
does Maxilock Identity Safe protect my identity?
By placing you within a ‘protected secure environment’ which
neutralizes any Spyware/malware programs that are designed to capture the
data entered and screen images viewed.
It incorporates a highly sophisticated and powerful anti-keylogging system
that is only engaged when the software is opened, and this neutralizes all
software keyloggers. In addition it removes the chance of any screen image
capture (either on timer or mouse click).
4.
Does
Maxilock Identity Safe replace my existing Anti Virus, Anti Spyware or Firewall
products?
No.
Maxilock is designed to complement and work alongside, not replace,
existing Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware and Anti Adaware software programs.
Note: Some antivirus and firewall products now require you to set
application rules to run software programs. Please refer to your Anti
Virus or firewall help instructions for further information.
5.
How
does it complement these existing technologies?
By delivering fail safe, over and above capabilities that many of the
current so called security products do not cater for, or have limited
ability in identifying/removing.
6.
Why
do I need to be concerned about key-loggers?
Keyloggers represent a specific type of malware that can capture, or
“log” all your key strokes. When visiting websites such as
your bank, Credit Card Company or even an online store to make a purchase,
you invariably will have to enter a certain amount of personal data. If
you have a key-logger on your system all of the data you enter could be
recorded and then forwarded to a third party who could use this
information to ‘steal’ your identity.
7.
If
my financial institution’s website uses an onscreen keyboard,
isn’t that sufficient to combat keyloggers?
Some on-screen keyboards simulate the keyboard and in fact still send
messages to the system as if they were coming from the keyboard, so can
still be logged. In any event if screen capture is also incorporated in
the spyware then an onscreen keyboard can still be compromised.
8.
Why
do I need to be concerned about screen capture?
Screen images will show the web-sites you are visiting, and often the
personal information – account numbers, account balances and so on.
Where on-screen keyboards are used to thwart keyloggers, screen capture
initiated by mouse click will be able to show exactly what is being
entered via the screen.
9.
If a
keylogger is on my PC am I still protected?
Yes. Maxilock Identity Safe neutralizes all keylogger software regardless
of whether it has specifically identified the particular program as a
possible threat, or whether it was present on the computer prior to the
installation of Maxilock.
10.
Can
I use Maxilock Identity Safe to do normal web browsing?
Maxilock is designed to be used for online banking and similar financial
transactions. Whilst using Maxilock, any web-site can be accessed either
by predefining the URL in Maxilock’s start screen and then opening
the window, or by typing the URL you require in an already open browsers
address line. We would not normally suggest using Maxilock for general web
browsing.
11.
How
can I protect my credit card details to carry out an ad-hoc purchase?
When on a web-site and you wish to purchase something using a credit or
debit card, then simply copy the ‘address’ of the page being
accessed into the clipboard, open Maxilock Identity Safe, double click on
any of the predefined URL’s, then paste the copied URL from the
clipboard into the address line of the browser window. You are now safe to
enter your personal details.
12.
How
safe are user names, passwords and other information entered into Maxilock
itself?
All the information stored in Maxilock is encrypted using a highly secure
encryption logarithm. Only the individual authorized user can access that
information by entering the user name and password.
13.
Can
Maxilock help against Phishing attempts?
Maxilock does not prevent the receipt of email phishing attempts. It does
however provide a secure way of accessing the web-sites of the financial
companies you regularly deal with. If you receive an email from a company
you deal with, then do not follow any links in the mail itself, but
instead access the company’s website through Maxilock, and search
for the information being discussed. If you receive an email from some
other financial institute which you’re not expecting, then simply
delete it.
14.
What
happens if I forget the password to access Maxilock itself?
Unfortunately if you forget the password then you will not be able to
recover the information stored, or enter any of the URL’s. You may
of course set up a new user with a new password and set everything up
again. Your maxilock password does not have any relevance for the
web-sites you access – you will however need to remember the login
names and passwords which you’ve stored, so please ensure that these
are secured somewhere independently.
15.
Can
more than one person use Maxilock from my machine.
Yes, Maxilock is effectively registered to the computer. Different users
can be created with their own login names and passwords. Any one user can
access only his own information.
